Langkawi is known for luxury resorts, but it can be a great budget destination too. Here is how to sleep, eat, move around and sightsee for less.
1. Travel off-peak
The peak season runs from December to March, when the weather is dry. From April to November, flights and rooms cost noticeably less and the island is calmer; expect some rain, mostly from May to October, usually an hour or two a day. See the best time to visit.
2. Budget places to stay
Zackry Guest House
Basic, affordable rooms · Pantai Cenang ↗
A short walk from the beach and eateries.
Rainbow Lodge
Clean, comfortable, fair prices · Pantai Cenang ↗
In the heart of Pantai Cenang, close to the beach and the sights.
T-Star Cottage
Wooden cottages in the greenery · Pantai Tengah ↗
A quiet setting at budget rates, for nature lovers.
3. Eat like a local
Night markets
Local dishes, snacks, drinks · Kuah and Pantai Cenang ↗
The best way to try many flavours for very little.
Warung Janggus
Authentic Malay food · Pantai Cenang ↗
Casual, flavourful and very reasonably priced.
More ideas in our Langkawi food guide.
4. Getting around
There is no real bus network. Grab and taxis are easy, and a rented scooter is the cheapest way to explore at your own pace.
5. Free and low-cost sights
Tanjung Rhu Beach
Free · North coast ↗
One of Langkawi’s most beautiful beaches, free to visit.

Gunung Raya
Free hiking trails · Centre of the island ↗
Trails through the rainforest to views from Langkawi’s highest peak.
Laman Padi Langkawi
Free rice-farming museum · Pantai Cenang ↗
An open-air museum among the rice paddies.
Sky Bridge and Cable Car
Worth the ticket · Oriental Village, Burau Bay ↗
The cable car needs a ticket, and the Sky Bridge a separate one at the top station, but the views are worth it.

Kilim Karst Geoforest Park
Mangroves and limestone cliffs · North-east coast ↗
Boat tours cost money, but joining a group keeps it cheap. Or combine the mangroves with a sunset cruise in one of our cruise and mangrove packages.
Good to know
A shared sunset cruise is the budget way onto a yacht: you pay per person, not per yacht.
6. Souvenirs
Skip the tourist shops: Langkawi Fair Shopping Mall and the night markets have better prices.

With a few smart choices, Langkawi does not need a big budget. For a full plan, see 4 days, 3 nights in Langkawi.
