Booked Langkawi for the December school holidays and now reading about rain and floods in Malaysia? Here is what the seasons really mean for your trip, and for a cruise. The short answer: Langkawi is a destination for every month of the year.
December to March: the dry season

With the north-east monsoon, and unlike Malaysia’s east coast, Langkawi is mostly sunny and dry from December to March: the season for blue skies and perfect sunsets. It is also the high season, so prices rise, and flights, hotels and yachts should be booked well ahead.
April and November: the transition months
April and November sit between the two monsoons, with sunny days and some showers. April and May are the hottest months of the year.
May to October: the south-west monsoon

This is the rainy season, but the rain usually means an hour or two a day in some part of the island, and most activities go ahead. Prices are lower and the sights are quieter. On a day cruise or a sunset cruise you may meet a shower, and the sunset is not always picture-perfect, but there are fewer yachts around.
Good to know
Waves can be higher during the south-west monsoon. Cruises that leave from the Kuah side, such as Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, sail in sheltered waters and are the better choice in this season.
The year-end holidays

Good news: a year-end holiday falls in the dry season, and usually means fine weather.
Good to know
The last week of December and Chinese New Year week are the busiest of the year: book your sunset dinner cruise as early as you can.
We look forward to welcoming you in sunny Langkawi. Planning the days? See 4 days, 3 nights in Langkawi.
