How to get to Langkawi
Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands off Malaysia’s west coast. You reach it by air or by ferry, then by car, Grab or taxi to your hotel and to the cruise departure points.
By air
Langkawi International Airport (LGK) has direct flights from Kuala Lumpur (KLIA and Subang), Penang, Johor Bahru and Singapore. From Europe, the Americas or elsewhere, the easiest route is usually through Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) or Singapore. Check the airlines for current routes and schedules.
By ferry
Ferries connect Kuah Jetty in Langkawi with Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah on the mainland, and with Satun in Thailand. Ferries to and from Koh Lipe in Thailand run only in season, roughly mid-October to the end of May, mainly from Telaga Harbour. The ferry between Penang and Langkawi no longer operates. Crossings take about 1 hour 15 minutes from Kuala Perlis, about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours from Kuala Kedah, and about 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours from Satun or Koh Lipe. Check the current timetables before you travel.
Getting around the island
Grab and taxis are easy to find and are the simplest way to reach your hotel and the cruise departure points. Car rental is available at the airport, the ferry terminals and around the island.
Entry to Malaysia
Many nationalities can enter Malaysia without a visa for a short stay, and your passport should be valid for at least six months from your arrival date. Most foreign visitors, including those arriving by ferry from Thailand, must also submit the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) on the Immigration Department website within three days before arrival (Singapore citizens are exempt). Check the current rules for your passport before you travel.
Where to stay
Kuah town is close to Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and the jetties where most of our cruises depart. Pantai Cenang is the main beach area, about 25 to 30 minutes away by car.
Weather
Langkawi is warm all year. The driest months are usually November to March. April to October brings more rain, and cruises can still go out with the right preparation.
